Alyssa Denny

I began practicing yoga while living in New Orleans receiving degrees in Sociology and Environmental Studies and soaking up all the funky music and culture that I could.  There I had the great opportunity to find a community steeped in healing arts and meditation, canoe the many cypress filled bayous and to study yoga with teachers who specialized in Kundalini, Hatha and Iyengar.

After graduating I spent a good deal of time traveling the world, expanding my experience by immersing myself in various cultures and environments while meeting kind people and deepening my own self awareness.  Everywhere that I went I took my yoga practice with me and continued to grow.  When I moved back to New Orleans I began to dig my hands into the earth and grow food and herbs.  I found meaningful work in the local food movement and teaching experiential, outdoor education.

Finally in 2016 after visiting on and off for years,  I decided to move to Oregon.  In 2017 I enrolled in the Hawthorn Institute Herbal Foundations Program studying Western Herbalism, Ayurveda, Botany, Medicine Making and Yoga.  It was then that I was introduced to the magic & medicine of the mountains and valleys that surround us.  In 2018, I went on to complete my 200 hour Hatha based Yoga Teacher Training with Cyd Bernstien and Cassidy Geppert of Wyse Body Yoga School at the Hawthorn Institute.  I’m excited and deeply grateful to be able to share the practice of yoga with my community.
